Kenneth Holmes Cribbins

I have been living with my Grandparents on and off since I was a child. I spent a summer with them and went to summer school in Los Gatos area when I was about 10. It was a wonderful summer for me. It was one of the best times of my life. No one really knew this (but neighbors suspected) but my home life wasn't the best. My Grandfather was the first man to be nice to me. Truly and honestly nice to me. I didn't understand this at the time. He was always supportive of me, my mother, my aunt and my Grandmother. He was also supportive of my sisters and my brother.

I've really gotten to know them over the last 12 years since I moved near them in 2000. I was living in Long Beach, CA, going to school. I need a change, I was deeply depressed. So I moved to Henderson, NV into my Grandparents house until I found a place of my own (a few months later). During this time, I have gotten to know my Grandparents pretty well.

My Grandfather use to tell me, you can believe in anything you want to believe in but be a good one. He use to have a lot of crazy ideas about different things. I would usually let him go on, every now and then, making a comment here and there.

My Grandfather believed in me. I never really understood this until recently. I had told them about an idea I had. I had been working on it on and off for the last year or so. I knew he thought it was a good and idea and supported it when he would help me. He would think of things on how I could solve an issue I was having with the idea. This meant a lot to me. I wish there was a way that I could have told him better than I did.

My Grandfather was born in San Mateo, CA in 1930. He was the youngest of 3 sons. His father was married to a woman and had a son. They passed away. His father than meet his mother, they married and had 2 sons. My Grandfather and his brother were best of friends. They both loved trains greatly. He liked doing things for his family. He started playing his piano per his mother at the age of 4. He played almost to the day he passed away.

He was a sporting goods wholesaler, milkman and a truck driver. He only did local trips so he could he close to his family. He also was a Free Mason, in Scottish Rite, a Shriner and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. He really enjoyed playing the piano specially for his Masonic groups. He loved his family. He tried to be at as many of the big Masonic events as possible (joining, becoming an officer, etc). He was proud and excited when my brother joined Free Masonry.

It is a great loss when he passed away earlier this year. I've been doing my best with keeping his yard clean. Keeping the roses alive. Keeping the pool clean and a few other things. I do my best with assisting my my Grandmother with her needs. Certain family members make this difficult. They are self-righteous, arrogant, rude and nearly impossible to be around sometimes. But what are you going to do, they are family and for now, I will have to continue to deal with them. However, this will not last, I will stop talking to them and dealing with them in every way possible soon. I wish them the best in life. I love them, they are my family but toxic people are not needed in my life.

Adventure Break Off

So part of Billiemarie Design Community Sale booth last October was brownies. I had been thinking for almost a year now about this. I see the cupcakes and cookies only bakeries, etc. Also the TV shows all about cupcakes only or cookie only places. There is even a bundt cake only bakeries in town. I thought why not a brownie only bakery. Everything is about brownies. The local JoAnn's has a section of the store for baking brownies only. You can make so many different kinds of brownies. You just need to come up with a basic recipe.

So with that, I took notes on my different kinds I made, like S'mores, Mexican Hot Chocolate, etc. I make a batch and cut the pieces small, then sell them a $.25 a piece until I get enough recipes that people will like. With the next booth, I want to have survey cards so people can tell me what they do & don't like. I am struggling with getting enough taste testers that will give me an honest opinion of my work.

I am naming the break off Brownies by Design. I have made up business cards, address labels, signs, etc. I have also started a new blog page: http://browniesbydesign.blogspot.com

I just started it, so give me some time with developing it. I hope you all enjoy it. I will still continue to make crafts, clothing, jewelry, etc

OES Community Sale Today

So for my first booth of my own doing, it went pretty well. I have worked other peoples' booths many times over but never one of my own work. I have 1 table split in half. 1 part was crafts I have been making over time and the other part was Brownies.

I sold small pieces of home made brownies of my own recipes. 1 was white chocolate, macadamia nut, cranberry brownie. Another was rainbow sprinkles with almond flavoring. 1 was cinnamon with espresso. Another was was white chocolate, macadamia nut with hazelnut frosting. The one I sold out of was S'more: vanilla wafers, walnuts with chocolate marshmallow frosting.

The next OES Community Sale is March 24th, 2012. It is a Saturday and will be at the same place: Mt Morah Lodge, Henderson Masonic Lodge, 480 Greenway, Henderson, NV 89015.

It was a lot of fun and exhausting working a booth on your own. No help setting up the canopy or table but a friend did help me take down the canopy which was nice. They had a raffle for the vendors who signed up today for the next community sale, their spot would be free and I won!! So I will be doing the same thing again but between now and then I will get another table (so the brownies could be on their own table). I will do the S'mores one again and I will work on some others people might enjoy more.

Kenneth Randall Witham

Kenneth Randall Witham

August 9th, 1951 - January 7th, 2009

My father has been known as Randy his whole life. I haven't seen him in 2 years. It was a closed casete service yesterday. After we left I thought I should have burried him with a scratcher and / or a lotto ticket. This week, I was realizing how much me and my siblings really are like my father. Both in good ways and in bad ways. It is weird to see how different and like we are from our family members.

My father was a well liked man. He had many friends and many family members. Many of them I don't know. I have often felt left out. My father kept many things to himself. Which is one of the things I got on him about. He wanted to know everything going on in my life but really wouldn't tell me anything about his.

Cleaning his apartment and storage unit was exhausting. It was also surreal. I keep thinking he was going to walk around the corner ans ask us 'What are you doing?' or call me and say 'What's going on?'

If you would lke to leave my father a note, you are welcome to do so on this link:

Thank you everyone for your help, love, prayers and concerns to me and my family during our this time in our life.

Haunted House

I am working on building a Haunted House at the MMT building. It is a fundraiser for the Shriner Hospitals and Daughters of the Nile. It is Saturday October 25th, 2008 from 5 PM to 9 PM. It is like $4.00 for kids under 12 and $8.00 for everyone else (I might be wrong about the prices but I think I am correct).

There will lots of candy, cake walk, hay maze, ghost toss, fishing booth, photo booth, food and a haunted house to walk through. Oh yeah, there will also be a graveyard.

The MMT - Masonic Memorial Temple is the Masonic building off Rancho and the 95. The exact address is 2200 W Mesquite Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89106. It is in the Multi-purpose room. I hope to see you all there.

Beer Bread

3 cups flour
1/2 cup of sugar
1 can (12 oz) beer
2 teaspoons of baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup melted butter

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Mix dry ingredients, then add in beer. Pour mixture into a lightly greased loaf pan. Pour melted butter over the dough. Bake for about 1 hour.

Tip

I have tried light beer and mixed flavored beers so far. I have also tried cider. I like the cider the best it makes the bread sweet tasting. I will try darker beers next.

I have done the recipe above and a pre-mixed one from Walmart. So far they are the same to me.

Pumpkin Earrings

This is a Halloween Jack-o-Lantern earrings. I found pumpkin happy face bell buttons at Jo Ann's. I then attached them to a pair of clip back earrings for pierced ears. A Halloween treat.
